Durham Regional Police responded to a stabbing in the area of Wilkins Crescent and Stonefield Street shortly before 3 a.m. Authorities have not confirmed if the incident happened inside a home or outdoors.

Officers found two men in their 20s with multiple stab wounds. One man was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre, while the other was transported by ambulance also to a trauma centre. Both victims remain in stable condition.

Officials have not provided additional information on the victims, including their ages and places of residence.

Two men were arrested shortly after and taken into custody, police say.

Elam Ahad-Rassy, 18, and Mason Smith, 21 —both from Clarington—have been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace.

Images of the suspects have not been released to the public.

Both Ahad-Rassy and Smith have been released on an undertaking.

The cause of the stabbing is still being investigated, and police have not confirmed if the incident was targeted.
