An Oshawa man allegedly crashed into a police cruiser on purpose after a traffic stop yesterday.

The officer involved was out on patrol around 2:30 p.m. on June 27 when he spotted a car with a stolen licence plate. The cop tried to pull the man over near Thickson Road South and Nichol Avenue, a largely commercial area in Whitby, but the driver did not stop.

Instead, Durham Police say, he rammed the officer’s cruiser and fled the area. Neither he nor the officer were hurt.

He later abandoned the car and fled in a second vehicle. This second car was found near Thickson Road South and Victoria Street East. This area is home to the Landmark Cinemas entertainment plaza about 2 kilometres south of the first location.

Officers managed to box the second car in and arrested the driver; Shaundrey Knight-Bryce, 22 of Oshawa. He’s been charged with fleeing police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property and failure to comply with probation. He remains in custody.

Anyone with information can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2090 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
