One half of an Oshawa couple is in custody facing weapons and assault charges after a dispute involving a knife at a campground in Selwyn Township in Peterborough County Wednesday night.

OPP Peterborough detachment officers got a call just after 9 p.m. on July 3 about a possible stabbing at the campground. Witnesses told police that an argument had started during a dinner between a couple, which later escalated after they returned to their trailer. After hearing yelling coming from the trailer, another family member tried to de-escalate the situation, which is when the ‘edged weapon’ was brought out.

Others from the park also showed up at the trailer and managed to take the weapon from the suspect, but not before one person received a minor cut which police said did not require medical attention.

A 52-year-old has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The accused is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough at a future date. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
