The heat wave sweeping through the GTA is also having an effect on transit, with several GO Train routes cancelled or modified, including two coming from and going to Oshawa.

During prolonged periods of high heat, rail tracks have the potential to soften and expand that require the trains to run at slower speeds. ‘Slow orders’ are then issued along the network for safety reasons and to reduce the risk of track damage.

One Tuesday afternoon Union Station to Oshawa GO trip has already been cancelled and the 4:40 p.m. trip from Oshawa to Union has also been removed from the schedule. GO is asking transit users to take the 4:10 p.m. or 5:10 p.m. train instead.

“We know that heat-related delays can be frustrating for customers,” said a message from Metrolinx, “however we must take proactive measures to ensure the GO Transit network operates safely in all kinds of weather conditions.”
