An Oshawa man has won $1 million after a lucky encore draw.

Leslie Dickson is a retired auto worker who has played the weekly lotto for decades. He typically runs the numbers on 6/49 and LottoMax and always gets an encore line. He bought his latest ticket at the Pioneer on the Run on Wilson and Taunton Roads in Oshawa.

It proved to be Dickson’s first major win. After the daily Encore draw, “I checked the winning numbers online. When I saw the winning ENCORE numbers, all the digits matched my ticket. My heart started racing and I had to take a few deep breaths,” he told the OLG.

“I looked at my wife and said, ‘I think I won $1 million.’ She was shocked and thrilled for me. This experience has been surreal. I would always dream of a win like this, but when it happens, it is unbelievable and special,” he smiled. “I feel thankful. It’s fantastic. Just super.”

Dickson hasn’t made any major plans on what to do with his winnings. However, he does know he’s going to celebrate with his wife over a nice meal.
