Is Pickering a fit and active community? Can it run with the best in the country? Will it get those cool ParticipACTION badges like those of us of a certain vintage received?

Next month we shall find out when Pickering participates in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, with the city aiming to be crowned Canada’s Most Active Community.

Winning this title comes with a grand prize of $100,000 to boost local sports and physical activity initiatives in Pickering, with the contest launched as part of Recreation & Parks Month in Canada.

To boost community involvement and physical activity, Pickering and neighboring Durham Region municipalities will offer free and low-cost activities throughout June. All events will be posted on Durham Tourism website.

The City received funding from the federal government’s Community Sport for All Initiative to support activities specifically designed for equity-seeking groups, including Black, Indigenous, racialized communities, 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals, persons with disabilities, low-income populations, and newcomers to Canada, but all residents of Pickering are invited to participate.
