A teen is fighting for her life in hospital following an incident at a parking lot in Uxbridge last night, where she fell off her skateboard and was subsequently run over by a pickup truck.

On Friday (Sept. 22) shortly before 6:30 p.m., Durham Regional Police responded to a parking lot at 335 Main St. N., north of Concession Rd. 6, after receiving reports of a girl who had been run over by a vehicle.

According to police, witnesses say the young girl was skateboarding behind a silver Dodge Pickup truck while holding onto the rear side of the board, near the wheel.

Unfortunately, she lost her balance and fell to the ground, resulting in the truck running over her.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

As a result of the incident, the 16-year-old suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local area hospital, officers say.

The teen was later transferred to a trauma center in Toronto, where she is currently in a life-threatening condition.

The DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Authorities are appealing to anyone with information about this incident or those who witnessed the collision to contact D/Cst. Dalgetty at 905-579-1520, extension 5217.
