19-year-old from Pickering dead following motorcycle crash on Hwy 401 at Markham Road

A man from Pickering has died following a single-vehicle crash on a busy highway in Scarborough this morning.

On Sunday (Sept. 17) at approximately 5 a.m., the OPP responded to a collision involving a motorcycle in the eastbound express lane on Hwy 401 at Markham Road.

Investigators say the rider of the motorcycle was fatally injured following the crash.

Police have closed off the area to motorists with a detour via Kennedy Road.

According to the OPP, “the collision reconstruction members are documenting the evidence and working to determine the circumstances.”

Officers expect to reopen the roads closer to 11 a.m.

Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes for the time being.
