Family outings in Durham just got a new destination, where kids can play freely while parents enjoy their coffee or tea.
The Plae House has opened its first location at 334 Rossland Rd. E. The space blends a modern café with a Montessori-inspired indoor play area for children up to age six.
Created by brothers Omar and Saeid Del Angel, The Plae House features an open-concept layout that gives parents clear sightlines as they enjoy coffee, specialty drinks and freshly prepared meals while children climb, crawl, and explore in a safe environment. Grip socks for kids and socks for adults are required in the play area.

The café menu includes sandwiches such as Turkey Pesto, Smoked Meat, and a Croissant CLT, alongside salads, kids’ meals, and baked goods like croissants, cookies, brownies and dessert cups. Drinks range from espresso and lattes to refreshers, including Pink Sunset and Blue Mango.
Open play sessions run for two hours, with weekday admission starting at $4.99 for infants and $18.99 for children, and weekend sessions ranging from $9.99. Each booking includes up to two free adult guests, plus a discount on food and drink purchases.
The Plae House is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with private party bookings available outside regular play hours.
