UPDATE: Durham police provided an update saying the car’s driver is in hospital with minor injuries while the passenger remains in critical condition. The transport truck driver was not injured.
Courtice Road has reopened as investigations into the crash continue.
Two people were rushed to a hospital with serious injuries following a collision involving a transport truck and a car on Highway 401 early Sunday morning.
The OPP said in a social media post that the crash happened shortly before 3:30 a.m., in the westbound lanes near Courtice Road.
Police say the driver and passenger of the car were taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries, but no updates on their condition have been provided.
Officials have not released further details about the victims, including their ages or places of residence.
There is no word yet on the cause of the crash or whether the transport truck driver suffered any injuries.
Police have closed Highway 401 westbound at Courtice Road for investigations.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
