A man is facing attempted murder charges after two violent stabbings and an assault in Oshawa last week.
Durham Regional Police say the first incident happened on Thursday (Aug. 29) around 2 a.m., when officers responded to reports of an armed person near John Street West and Nassau Street.
Police say a man assaulted a woman and then stabbed another man before fleeing the scene.
The woman suffered minor injuries, while the man was found with serious stab wounds and was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. Updates on his condition are unknown.
A search for the suspect was unsuccessful at that time, police say.
Nearly 12 hours after the first incident, at approximately 2:15 p.m., officers responded to another call about an armed person in the same area.
Police say the same suspect stabbed another man and fled. The victim, who suffered serious stab wounds, was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
Officials have not provided additional information on the three victims including their ages and places of residence.
It is unclear whether the incidents were targeted or if the victims knew the suspect.
Authorities searched the area and found the suspect, who was subsequently taken into custody.
Lucais Joesph Dayton, 22, —of no fixed address—faces multiple charges including attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, four counts of possessing a weapon for committing an offence and 11 counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
