27 kids enjoyed a pizza lunch, visit from Santa and a gift card as part of ther 19th annual Cop Shop in Pickering

Twenty-seven deserving kids in Pickering and Durham Region will enjoy a happy holiday this season, thanks to the generosity of Durham Police and retailers at the Shops at Pickering City Centre.

The participating children, selected from recommendations based on need, academic or sports achievement or volunteer efforts that are making a difference in the community, were each awarded a $200 gift card, a stocking and a voucher from mall retailers as part of the 19th annual Cop Shop on Wednesday.

Durham Police Chief Peter Moreira, Cst. Robin Roychoudhury and organizer Jennifer Husain welcomed the kids, who enjoyed a pizza lunch before being sent off to have their photos taken with Santa Claus.

The children were then partnered with a DRPS member before setting off to find the perfect presents.

Moreira thanked everyone who made the event possible and urged residents to donate to the DRPS Food & Toy Drive.

Donations of non-perishable food and unwrapped toys can be dropped off at any police station, fire halls in Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and Bowmanville and Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby.
