While housing in the Durham Region and the GTA overall is far from cheap, some houses in Oshawa, Pickering and Ajax recently changed hands for less than $600,000–which is much less than the average home price in the region.

In fact, recent data from the Central Lakes Association of Realtors (CLAR) indicates the average price in Durham hit $860,622 in December 2023, with an increase in sales from December 2022. 

According to CLAR, the average home price in Oshawa was $727,493 in December, while buyers in Pickering were seeing an average price of $1,005,085 and houses in Ajax were going for about $912,819.

23 – 33 Taunton Rd. E. – Oshawa

This two-bedroom, one-bathroom townhouse in North Oshawa boasts up to 1,200 square feet of space. The house, which sold for $450,000 after being listed for $399,900, is close to parks, transit, restaurants, Durham College, Trent University and other amenities. 


1516 – 1000 The Esplanade Rd. N. – Pickering

This one-bedroom, one-bathroom condo sold for $495,000 after hitting the market at $499,000. Boasting over 700 square feet of space, the Pickering Town Centre-area suite offers a clean white interior and access to a number of amenities, including a pool, billiards room, party room, gym and more. 


22 – 1360 Glenanna Rd. – Pickering

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse in Pickering’s Liverpool neighbourhood sold for $525,000 after being listed for $549,990. Offering about 1,700 square feet of space, the tenanted home features laminate flooring throughout, an upgraded kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a large backyard, a sauna and storage space. 


15 – 221 Ormond Dr. – Oshawa

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom condo townhouse in Oshawa’s Cedar Ridge neighbourhood sold for $552,000 after hitting the market at $499,900. Boasting over 1,000 square feet of space, the home features fresh paint, new light fixtures, a formal dining room, a fenced-in yard and more. 


104 – 193 Lake Driveway Dr. W. – Ajax

This elegantly decorated two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo in Ajax’s Discovery Bay area sold for $565,000 after being listed for $574,900. Boasting over 800 square feet of space, the open-concept suite features vinyl plank flooring, custom storage and a walk-in closet.
