Pickering is slated to receive over $5 million that could go to job creation and infrastructure.
Today, OLG announced that its first-quarter payment of $5,545,102 will go to Pickering, which hosts the Pickering Casino Resort. OLG regularly makes payments to communities that host casinos, including other Durham municipalities such as Ajax and Scugog.
Since Pickering’s gaming site opened in July 2021, the city has received $47,974,125.
In a news release, OLG said the payments, based on proceeds of casino gaming, contribute to economic development, particularly infrastructure and job creation.
“Investing OLG’s profits back into host communities is another example of our government’s continued efforts to strengthen local infrastructure and community programs,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, in a statement.
“We remain focused on working with our municipal partners to ensure that communities across Ontario have the supports in place to empower their residents to lead active, fulfilling lives and enable local businesses to thrive.”
Since 1994, host communities have received more than $2.1 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
