Durham Regional Police Service is investigating a house fire in Oshawa that they are calling ‘suspicious’ after one of the two occupants who escaped the blaze suffered smoke inhalation injuries and was taken to a hospital where she remains in critical condition.

On Saturday (July 22) at approximately 12:30 a.m., police were dispatched to 250 McNaughton Ave. / Ritson Rd. S., for an active house fire.

Police say there were two individuals inside the residence at the time of the fire, but managed to get out of the home.

However, one of the occupants who police confirm is a 67-year-old woman, suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to the local hospital in life-threatening condition.

Since then, the victim’s injuries were upgraded to critical.

Investigators say, the Fire Mashal attended the scene and deemed the fire to be suspicious.
