9 scenic routes to bike along in Durham this summer.

Whether you enjoy a bike ride through tranquil countryside rides, scenic waterfronts, or visiting historic villages, Durham offers a trail for every cyclist.

Here are nine trails you might want to check out in Durham:


Pickering/Ajax Loop: This 51 km loop begins at Pickering’s waterfront and heads west along the Waterfront Trail before turning northeast through rural areas.

Cyclists will come across waterfront views and charming rural landscapes, with highlights including Petticoat Creek Conservation Park and Pickering Nautical Village.


Durham Waterfront Trail: Stretching from Pickering to Bowmanville, the Durham Waterfront Trail offers continuous views of Lake Ontario.

This trail passes through various parks and conservation areas, including Petticoat Creek Conservation Park and the family-friendly Ajax Waterfront Park.


Oshawa Urban Loop: For those looking to explore a mix of cityscapes and natural landscapes, the Oshawa Urban Loop is a 22 km route that starts at Lakeview Park and includes the Joseph Kolodzie Oshawa Creek Bike Path and the Harmony Creek Trail.


Oshawa/Courtice Loop: Starting at Lakeview Park in Oshawa, this 40 km route takes cyclists north along the Oshawa Creek Bike Path.

The route features a mix of urban and natural landscapes and loops back via Clarington’s Waterfront Trail. Along the way, riders can enjoy key landmarks such as the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens and the historic Oshawa Museum.


Sideroads of Scugog: The Sideroads of Scugog offer cyclists breathtaking views of Lake Scugog and its lush farmland. The route combines flat terrain with gentle hills, making it suitable for cyclists of all abilities.

Along the way, riders can explore the charming town of Port Perry, known for its historic downtown, and enjoy numerous vantage points with sweeping lake views.

 Back Roads of Brock: For those seeking a quiet ride, this path offer a safe and enjoyable journey through the rural areas of Brock Township.

The route features minimal traffic and beautiful vistas, with stops at the charming village of Cannington, known for its picturesque downtown and friendly local shops.

Cyclists can also enjoy attractions such as Rolling Hills Studio, White’s Creek Flower Farm, and Vive Lavender Farm, offering unique local experiences like art workshops, pick-your-own flowers, and serene lavender fields.


Leaskdale Loop: Cyclists can immerse themselves in history and nature on this ride.

The route winds through the historic village of Leaskdale, offering views of rolling hills, forests, and farmlands.

Key highlights include the Lucy Maud Montgomery Museum, where the author lived and wrote many of her novels, and scenic river crossings that add to the route’s charm and appeal.

Additionally, the loop features stops at various local attractions such as Greenmantle Pottery, and Pefferlaw Creek Farms.


The Uxbridge Beer and Cider Trail:  This path offers a unique experience by combining scenic cycling with stops at local breweries and cideries.

Cyclists can enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Uxbridge while sampling some of the region’s best craft beverages.

Key stops along the trail include The Second Wedge Brewing Co., known for its handcrafted ales and lively taproom, and Banjo Cider, which offers traditional small-batch ciders.
