A Tim Horton’s restaurant slated for expropriation and closure to make way for wider tracks for a future GO station will be serving its last coffee and donuts Sunday.

The restaurant at 415 Simcoe St. S. (just north of Highway 401) was not without its share of controversy – in-dining was closed for a few days in January because of “safety concerns” – but the permanent closure of the location is because of the impending new GO station immediately to the east.

The new station will require bigger tracks to accommodate the trains and the restaurant, and several other nearby properties, will be demolished to make that happen.

It’s all part of a grand expansion by transit operator Metrolinx to bring GO Train service all the way to Bowmanville.

The central Oshawa station will be one of four new stations in Durham Region, including two in Oshawa.
