Active cases of COVID-19 pass 1,400 mark with 281 new cases Tuesday – 64 in Whitby

Another day, another COVID record with 281 new cases of the virus reported in Durham Region yesterday, bringing the active care total to a staggering 1,406.

There are five people in hospital now with three in ICU.

Sixty-four of the new cases were in Whitby, with 57 in Pickering, 49 in Oshawa, 47 in Ajax and 43 in Clarington as the infections from the new Omicron variant spread across the region. Even the smaller northern communities were producing positive results with three in Scugog and Uxbridge and six in Brock, which is possibly a daily record for the township.

There are now two outbreaks in long-term care homes with two residents self-isolating. There are eight workplace outbreaks and 19 school outbreaks.
