A 50 year-old woman is recovering in hospital after being stabbed multiple times in Ajax Sunday night.

West Division officers responded to a stabbing call on Torr Lane – south-west of Salem and Kingston roads and north-east of downtown – at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Police found the victim suffering from “multiple stab wounds.”

She was transported to a Toronto trauma centre where she remains in stable condition.

Police were able to determine the location of the suspect and set up containment around a residence.  The Criminal Investigations Unit then executed a search warrant and with the support of the Tactical Support Unit made the arrest.

Shevon Cahns Guthrie, 26, of Ajax has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Police say the suspect and victim are not known to each other and believe this was an unprovoked attack.  There is “no risk” to public safety, police added.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact Det. Smith of the West Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2528.
