Two men have been charged in connection to a carjacking in Ajax.

The victim was at the Dundas St. and Lake Ridge Rd. Petro Canada shortly before 2:30 on Feb. 9. As he was walking back to his BMW, two men approached him and demanded his keys. He refused and was shoved to the ground. The unsuccessful carjackers fled the area, according to Durham Regional Police.

Through their investigation, police learned the men fled in a car reported stolen from Durham Region. However, they later discovered the car belonged to a suspect’s family member. Police allege the relative falsely filed the report.

Officers raided an Ajax home on Feb. 27 in a residential neighbourhood near Wicks Dr. and Kingston Rd. They arrested two men at the scene;

  • Ahmad Muqim, 18 of Ajax, is charged with robbery, disguise with intent and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
  • Tehmina Muqim, 33 of Ajax is charged with obstruction of a peace officer and public mischief – false report

Police did not confirm how the men are related.
