Ajax hosting summer parties with free concerts, kid’s performances and Zumba

Ajax’s Summer in the Square parties are back starting tomorrow night with free family friendly concerts, children’s performances and Zumba. 

Rain or shine, the event kicks off Tuesday, July 4 with the Beach Party Boys, a Beach Boys tribute band, hitting the stage for Music in the Square presented by TD.

It runs every other Tuesday night until Aug. 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Pat Bayly Square (75 Bayly Street W.) in downtown Ajax where people can enjoy free entertainment for all ages, from classic rock to pop.  

Here is the entertainment lineup:

  • July 4, 7 – 8:30 p.m.: Beach Party Boys (Beach Boys Tribute)
  • July 18, 7 – 8:30 p.m.: Beatlemania Revisited (Beatles Tribute)
  • Aug. 1, 7 – 8:30 p.m.: Fiddlestix (Fiddle-Rock Band)
  • Aug. 15, 7 – 8:30 p.m.: Exodus (Bob Marley Tribute)
  • Aug. 29, 7 – 8:30 p.m.: Green River Revival (CCR Tribute)

Kids in the Square is another free event that will begin July 11. The event runs every other Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. until Aug. 22. 

Here is the entertainment lineup:

  • July 11, 7 – 8 p.m.: Njacko Backo: African Voyage
  • July 25, 7 – 8 p.m.: BenTastic’s Magically Fantastic Show
  • Aug. 8, 7 – 8 p.m.: Sonshine and Broccoli
  • Aug. 22, 7 – 8 p.m.: Micro Bubble Foam Party

In addition, all ages and levels are welcome to join the Zumba dance parties. People are encouraged to wear their brightest athletic clothing and get ready to do some aerobic moves inspired by Latin American music.

Participants must register for free to participate in the following Zumba sessions:  

  • Friday, July 7: 7 – 8 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 11: 7 – 8 p.m.

Local vendors and a brewery will be at the events to provide food and beverages. 

A snack bar will be open featuring frozen treats.

People are encouraged to bring chairs. Free registration is only required for the Zumba dance parties.

All performances will move indoors at the Ajax Community Centre’s HMS room during unpleasantly cold or wet weather. The free admission for indoor seating (280 capacity) is on a first come, first served basis.
