22-year Ajax councillor Scott Crawford

A former Ajax Councillor who served the town and its residents for 22 years has died.

Scott Crawford represented Ward 2 from 1988 to 1997 as a local Councillor and then on Regional Council from 1997-2010.

He was defeated in 2010 by future Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier.

Collier expressed his condolences to Crawford’s friends and family and his thanks for his years of service to Ajax residents.

“During his time on Council, several major projects were accomplished, including improvements to the waterfront, renovations and expansions of ACC and MCC, and the development of the Audley Sportsplex,” Collier said.

A tree was also planted at Rotary Park in 2019 in recognition of Crawford’s accomplishments to the Town.

A former GM worker at the Scarborough van assembly plant (now the Eglinton Town Centre), Crawford was a straight shooter on Council (he locked horns with long-time Mayor Steve Parish on many occasions) and a tireless advocate for his constituents.

Details on funeral arrangements are not yet available but flags at Town facilities will be at half-mast in his honour. The community is also invited to sign one of the books of condolence which will be available at Town Hall and all community centres.
