Ajax’s casino winnings have been delivered in a more than $1 million cheque from the OLG.

On Oct 18, the OLG announced the town’s share of the Ajax Casino’s second-quarter earnings. This quarter ran from July 1 to Sept. 30. In total Ajax earned $1,056,892 from hosting the casino in that time.

So far this year, Ajax has earned $2,197,802, which adds to the $109,315,200 it has earned since the site opened in February 2006.

“Land-based casinos serve as a source of good local jobs and generate important economic activity in Ajax and across Durham Region,” said Ajax MPP Patrice Barnes, “Proceeds from gaming received through the Municipality Contribution Agreement with OLG, in turn, help strengthen local infrastructure and support community programs.”

The agreement includes a formula to calculate the town’s share of the casino earnings. This uses a graduated scale based on the site’s revenue and is applied equally to all similar sites. In total, the casinos have delivered $2.1 billion to host communities since 1994.

This quarter Pickering also received $4,184,660 and the Mississaugas of Scugog Island earned $719,848.
