An Ajax teenager has been arrested in connection to a carjacking in Toronto.

Around 8 p.m. on Feb. 21, Toronto Police learned of a robbery near Finch Ave. and McCowan Rd. in Scarborough. The area is a busy residential area of apartment towers near the Woodside Square mall in the city’s north.

Police allege the teen, 17, arrived to the area in a stolen car and approached the victim in a parking lot. They further claim the suspect pulled a handgun, threw the victim to the ground and demanded their car keys.

The teen then fled the area in the victim’s car, abandoning their original ride, investigators charge. OPP officers later found the car and arrested the teen. The teen was allegedly in possession of a replica pistol. Under Canadian law, the use a fake gun in the commission of a crime is treated as though it were real.

The boy has been charged with robbery with a firearm and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime. He later appeared in a Toronto courtroom His identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
