Update: Ajax three-car crash leaves one dead, another in life-threatening condition

An Oshawa woman is dead and another person is in hospital with serious injuries following a three-car collision in Ajax Friday afternoon.
Durham Regional Police announced the crash shortly after 3 p.m. They received the 911 call regarding the crash about 20 minutes prior.
Police say a 2014 red Mazda 5 was travelling east on Taunton Road when it struck three stopped vehicles at the intersection at Harwood Avenue in the eastbound lanes.
Emergency services attended the scene within minutes but a passenger in the Mazda 5 – a 69 year-old Oshawa woman – was without vital signs when paramedics arrived and was pronounced dead. The driver of the Mazda 5 was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants in the other involved vehicles were uninjured.
The Durham police Collision Investigation Unit was at the scene to investigate the crash and shut down Harwood Avenue, Ajax’s main artery, from Westney Road to Middlecote Drive for severasl hours.
