Lakeridge Health leaders and local politicos will be on hand in Ajax this morning for the grand opening of Lakeridge Gardens, Durham Region’s newest long-term care home.

The 320-bed facility is located adjacent to the Ajax-Pickering Hospital.

Ontario Finance Minister and Pickering-Uxbridge MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy and Durham Chair John Henry will join Lakeridge Health executives for the celebration at 11 am at 680 Harwood Avenue South in Ajax.

All attendees will be required to wear masks while at the event.

Lakeridge Gardens was built in record time thanks to a new program called ‘Accelerated Build.’ Marc Pascoli, Vice President and District Manager of builders PCL Constructors Canada Inc, said “collaboration” was the key to the short turnaround.

“The outcomes achieved on the Lakeridge Health Accelerated Build project truly personify what strong partnerships can achieve,” he said. “The successful outcome on this project is only possible thanks to the dedicated efforts of every individual who committed to the goal of delivering Ontario’s first Accelerated Build project in only 13 months, as promised.”

The keys were handed over to Lakeridge Health March 2, signifying ‘substantial performance’ in the construction timeline and even the grand opening deadline of late march was reached with the ribbon cutting on March 25.

Lakeridge Gardens facility will provide Durham seniors with care and comfort in a modern environment that is connected to a campus of care operated by Lakeridge Health.
