All but one beach in Durham Region are open for business this weekend.
The Durham Region Health Department tests for E. coli in all its waterfront every week throughout the summer. They post a beach as unsafe if there is 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.
For the week of Aug. 14, they found all beaches in Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Pickering, Oshawa and Whitby are safe for swimming. These include;
- Beaverton North and Beaverton South (Brock)
- Bowmanville East and Bowmanville West (Clarington)
- Frenchman’s Bay East and Frenchman’s Bay West (Pickering)
- Heydenshore Park and Iroquois Beach (Whitby)
- Lakeview Beach East and Lakeview Beach West (Oshawa)
- Newcastle Beach Central (Clarington)
- Paradise Beach (Ajax)
- Thorah Centennial Park (Brock)
However, Scugog’s only beach, Kinsmen Beach, has been posted for high bacteria levels. The beach has also been under a blue-green algae advisory throughout the summer.
