Alleged child luring attempt leads to charges for Oshawa man

An Oshawa man has been charged with an alleged attempt to lure a 12-year-old girl into sexual activity.

On June 2, Durham Police received a report about an Oshawa man who was believed to be involved in child pornography and luring minors. The report indicated the suspect used the social media platform Meet24, an obscure dating app, to communicate with someone he thought was a 12-year-old girl.

Police claim the man tried to arrange a meeting with the girl under the username “Robert.”

Randall Robert Vipond, 60 of Oshawa, was arrested on July 10. He faces numerous charges including;

  • possession of child pornography,
  • making child pornography available,
  • making sexually explicit material available to a minor,
  • making sexually explicit material available to a person under 16,
  • luring a person under 16 for sexual assault,
  • luring a person under 16 for sexual interference, and
  • luring to make child pornography
