An Oshawa man faces several charges after an alleged attempt to lure a child into sexual activity.

Durham Police received reports a man from Oshawa was communicating with young girls from abroad. Investigators believe the man sent sexually explicit materials to these girls over the social app Kik under the names ‘themachine2112,’ and ‘Vince Georgio.’ He allegedly requested explicit images and videos in exchange.

Furthermore, police believe he made arrangements with someone he believed was an underage girl to meet in an Oshawa park “to engage in sex acts.”

The investigation launched in March and concluded on May 31 when police raided the man’s home near King Street West and Thornton Road South. They arrested the suspect at home and seized several electronics.

Corey Zych, 32 from Oshawa, is charged with;

  • luring someone under 18 with telecommunication,
  • two counts of luring someone under 16 through telecommunications
  • making sexually explicit material available to someone under 18, and
  • sexually explicit material available to someone under 16

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing. “Police are concerned there may be other victims and are requesting anyone with information to come forward,” investigators wrote.

Anyone with information can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
