A man from Brampton faces charges months after a cell phone store in Whitby was robbed at gunpoint.

Back on September 1, two men armed with guns walked into the Freedom Mobile in Kendalwood Plaza. The pair demanded cell phones from the store and stole one from a customer.

After grabbing the goods the pair hopped into a waiting silver Hyundai and fled the scene. No one was hurt in the robbery. Durham Regional Police officers later found the Hyundai in a nearby parking lot.

Having noticed the police, the Hyundai took off from the lot with officers in pursuit. However, due to the Hyundai’s dangerous driving, the pursuing officers broke off the chase for public safety.

Following a months-long investigation, police identified a suspect. They announced his arrest on January 5.

Jahsiya Mullings, 19 of Brampton, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and disguise with intent. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

A second suspect still remains unidentified and at large.
