The Special Investigations Unit has dropped its investigation into a woman’s arrest in Pickering after learning she was not seriously hurt as previously reported.
The investigation began on May 25. The day before the woman, 28, was riding as a a passenger on a motorcycle on Highway 401. Police officers had attempted to pull the bike over, but it instead sped off.
Police brought in the Air 1 helicopter to scan for the bike. The chopper found it at a gas station on Kingston Road and Liverpool Road. Officers caught up to the bike and arrested a man and a woman who were riding it.
The woman was taken to hospital with a possibly broken nose. As a result, the SIU was required to investigate as they are in any case where someone is seriously hurt dealing with police.
However, on Aug. 21, the SIU concluded the investigation. They said the woman’s nose was in fact not broken. Therefore the SIU no longer has jurisdiction in the case and they’ve dropped the investigation.
