Attempt to open bank account with fake ID leads to charges in Oshawa

A Toronto man is accused of using a fake ID to try to open a bank account in Oshawa.

Durham Police allege the man went to the TD Bank at 22 Stevenson Road South around 1 p.m. on May 28 and tried to open an account with a fraudulent passport and social insurance card.

Bank employees called the cops on suspicion the documents were fake. When officers arrived, police claim, they certified the ID was fake. They arrested the man without incident.

Justin Thomas, 27 of Toronto, is charged with;

  • using a fake document,
  • attempted fraud under $5,000,
  • two counts of possession of another’s identity document
  • using a forged passport, and
  • fraudulent use of a certificate of citizenship.
