Australia’s 2024 Comedian of the Year is bringing his take on the generation gap to Oshawa’s Regent Theatre for two shows Saturday where he asks his audience to leave their political correctness at the door.

Joe Avati’s new show, When I Was Your Age, aims to deliver his brand of comedic insights on how times have changed, for better or worse, since he grew up as a teenager in the 80s.

Known for his inimitable style Avati, who is Australian-born with an Italian heritage, is a master of treading the fine line saying what many people everyone think but “no one dares to say” without the use of profanities or vulgar shock tactic routines.

Avati tackles the ‘then versus now’ generational differences of today’s kids and the complexities of modern day parenting compared to the strict upbringing of yesterday, with jokes about discipline by his Italian father not unlike Russel Peters’ banter about growing up in an Indo-Canadian household.

Avati also tackles the minefield of cancel culture, the woke brigade and why people are over political correctness, with observations that are relatable to all ages.

The comedian promises the show to be for the entire family and encourages people to bring their parents to highlight “how much they have changed since they were your age” and to bring friends to laugh about growing up as teenagers back in the day and to bring the kids so they know what you went through “when I was your age…”

The shows start at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. with tickets at $49.
