The second body found near Cannington has been identified as Tatilda Noble, 85, the woman from Whitby declared missing from her Scepter Place home last month.
Noble and her daughter Ava Burton, 58, were declared missing after police were called to their home for a wellness check on October 14. On arrival police found evidence of “suspicious circumstances” surrounding their disappearance.
A week later homicide detectives arrested Joshua Burton, 30, of Whitby, on October 22. He was charged with two counts of second degree murder. Joshua Burton is Ava Burton’s son and Noble’s grandson.
The following Monday two bodies were discovered on The Glen Road five km from Cannington and more than 5o km from the crime scene. Since the bodies were discovered just across the border into Kawartha Lakes, the OPP have assisted in the investigation.
One body was later identified as Ava Burton. The autopsy discovered “obvious signs of trauma to both victims,” according to police.
