Christmas Eve home break-in in Whitby leads to charges for two suspects

Two men are in custody after a break-in at a residential garage in Whitby on Christmas Eve.

Durham Regional Police report their officers responded to a home near Princess Street and Cassels Road East, a residential neighbourhood north of Highway 7 in Brooklin, just before 6 a.m. on Dec. 24.

Police said two men used a stolen garage door opener remote to gain access to the property. The officers found one suspect on scene and arrested him without incident. A second man was in the area but fled in a grey SUV before the officers could arrest him.

The officers searched the nearby area and soon found a similar vehicle. They pulled the SUV over and arrested the driver.

The two men charged include:

  • Zachary Linter, 33 of Courtice
    • break-and-enter
    • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000,
    • failure to comply with a release order, and
    • two counts of failure to comply with probation orders
  • Joseph Davrieux, 55 of Clarington
    • break-and-enter
    • dangerous driving
    • fleeing police
    • driving while prohibited, and
    • two counts of failure to comply with release orders
