Oshawa Generals fans will be torn tonight for Game 7 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Islanders.

Do they cheer for gritty winger Cal Clutterbuck of the Isles or budding star Anthony Cirelli of the Lightning?

Veteran Clutterbuck, who is second on the NHL’s all-time hit list (behind L.A.’s Dustin Brown and ahead of teammate Matt Martin) and is part of what has been called the best fourth line in hockey (with Martin and Casey Cizikas), spent two-plus years on good buddy John Tavares’ wing on some good Generals teams in the mid-2000s.

Also, Chris Richards of the Vancouver Province declared Cal Clutterbuck the greatest name in the NHL in 2010.

Cirelli, a two-way centre with Tampa, famously scored the OT winner for Oshawa in the 2015 Memorial Cup final against Leon Draisaitl’s heavily favoured Kelowna Rockets. He was drafted by the Bolts that year and was named captain of the Gens in 2016.

Cirelli was traded to Erie at the deadline the following season and would score the OT winner to lift the Otters to the OHL championship and a berth in the 2017 Memorial Cup. Erie would lose in the final to Windsor.
