An afternoon of family fun is on the dance cards for Courtice residents when the community celebrates the new outdoor amenities at the South Courtice Arena Saturday afternoon.

The site on Prestonvale Road now features two new tennis courts, an outdoor fitness area, multi-skills court and paved walkways to the off-leash dog park. The new outdoor fitness area is the first of its kind in Clarington and was funded in part by the federal government’s Healthy Communities Initiative. It’s built on an accessible rubberized surface and is suitable for people using wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

In addition to checking-out the new amenities, residents are invited to enjoy an afternoon (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) of free family fun, including:

  • Ribbon-cutting with Council at 4 p.m.
  • Indoor ice skating
  • Demonstrations for tennis, outdoor fitness, basketball and ball hockey
  • Inflatables
  • Face painting
  • Games and prize wheel
  • Live radio broadcast on site
  • A visit from Clarington Emergency and Fire Services
  • Freezies
  • Sensory spaces
