A Clarington man already wanted on outstanding warrants is in custody on commercial break-and-enter charges after he was spotted leaving a closed business in Port Perry early Saturday morning.

A North Division police officer was conducting proactive patrol near Simcoe Street and Oyler Drive in Port Perry just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday when he saw a “suspicious male” exit a business.  The man, police said, was seen loading multiple items into his vehicle.

A traffic stop was initiated as the suspect was leaving the area and the driver was subsequently identified as a prohibited driver with outstanding warrants.  He was also confirmed to be in possession of numerous stolen items.  He was taken into custody without incident.

Christopher Heayn, 49, is charged with break-and-enter, possession of stolen property (under $5,000) and two counts of driving while prohibited.

He was held for bail hearing.
