The challenges of climate change will be the focus of a family-friendly roundtable at the Region of Durham headquarters in Whitby October 19.
The Durham Climate Roundtable Fall Forum will bring together leaders, innovators and local families to discuss and take action around climate challenges. Hosted by the Region of Durham and the Brilliant Energy Institute at Oshawa’s Ontario Tech University, this year’s event will “explore pathways to a more sustainable future.”
Attendees will get a chance to participate in workshops, listen to insights from local leaders, sit in on panel discussions or join a movement to reduce waste and overconsumption at the Repair Café, where residents can bring bikes or small appliances, to get “new life” with the help of skilled volunteers.
“At the Durham Climate Roundtable Fall Forum, we have an opportunity to bring together local leaders and our community to engage in meaningful discussions about our path to net zero,” said Jennifer Alsop, Brilliant Energy’s Director. “This forum is not just about exploring ideas; it’s about learning from each other and taking tangible steps towards a sustainable future for Durham Region. Collaboration today will shape the energy landscape over the next 50 years and beyond.”
The Durham Environment and Climate Advisory Committee is also hosting an Art from Garbage contest where students can get creative with upcycled materials to “make your masterpiece.” The contest closes Friday, with more information on Durham.ca along with the official entry form.
Whether you’re passionate about sustainability, curious about Durham’s climate initiatives, or simply looking for a fun and fulfilling day out with the family, this event could be for you, said Durham Region Chair John Henry.
“Attending local events such as this community forum is important for raising awareness of our climate challenges here in Durham and will provide opportunities to connect with change makers. I encourage you to take in as many events, discussions and workshops as possible.”
