Closed and Open on August 5 in Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Clarington

The Civic Holiday falls on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, in Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Clarington and the rest of Durham Region. In Oshawa the holiday is declared McLaughlin Day.
Most retail will be open on Monday, a government holiday but not a statutory holiday.
Here’s what’s open and closed:
OPEN
- Big box stores and department stores
- Restaurants
- Convenience stores
- Movie theatres
- Grocery stores
- Pharmacies
- Cannabis stores
- Most breweries that are normally open Monday. Call ahead to your favourite to be sure
- Splash pads and outdoor recreation trails and municipal parks
- Outdoor pools, including Camp Samac in Oshawa, Orono Park in Clarington and Ajax Memorial Pool
- Some municipal recreation centres, including Delpark Homes Centre and South Oshawa Community Centre in Oshawa; Courtice Community Centre in Clarington; and Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby will be open on a modified schedule
- Most tourist destinations will be open, with the exception of municipally owned facilities such as Pickering Museum Village
Malls:
- Pickering Town Centre, Whitby Mall and Oshawa Centre will be open
Beer Stores: Six select Beer Stores will be open from 11-6.

- 1355 Kingston Road East in Pickering
- 3950 Brock St. N in Whitby
- 195 King Street East in Bowmanville
- 220 Ritson Road North in Oshawa
- Port Perry 677 Queen St.
Some LCBOs will be open at reduced hours (11-6) and customers are encouraged to check the store locator feature for their local store hours on lcbo.com or the mobile app.

- Most banks will be closed.

- Many community centres
- Waste transfer stations
TRANSIT
- Durham Transit and PULSE buses will operate on a holiday/weekend schedule
- GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule
WASTE
- Garbage and recycling schedules will be pushed ahead one day
