Update: Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, the road had reopened, police said. There was no further information provided.

Durham authorities have announced a sudden closure of the intersection of Dryden and Thickson in Whitby.
In a post to X (formerly Twitter) today, officers indicated the closure was due to an active collision investigation.
Road Closure. Intersection of Dryden and Thickson in Whitby due to collision investigation. Thickson Rd is closed north and south bound from Winterberry Drive to Taunton Rd as well as eastbound and westbound traffic on Dryden. Avoid area if possible.

The post also noted that Thickson Road is closed north and southbound from Winterberry Drive to Taunton Road. Additional closures also induce eastbound and westbound traffic on Dryden
Law enforcement authorities are notifying residents to avoid the area if possible.
