Costco Wholesale officially opened their second location in Oshawa Thursday morning, with a bright-and-early ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:30 a.m.

The north Oshawa site – located at 100 Windfields Farm Drive East, at Simcoe Street, south of Hwy 7 – has created 185 new part-time and seasonal jobs and a convenient opportunity for residents to shop close to the city’s fastest-growing neighbourhoods.

“We are thrilled about the opening of a second Costco Wholesale in North Oshawa,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “The new warehouse has created valuable employment opportunities for the region and will strengthen the local economy by offering a wider selection of goods and services to our residents and visitors.”

The new 161,391 square-foot location features wide aisles and an extensive selection of food offerings. It also includes a large variety of specialty departments, such as an on-site bakery, fresh meat, expansive produce area, rotisserie chicken section, optical centre – including an on-site independent optometrist – a hearing aid centre, five tire centre bays, large food court, gas station with 24 pumps, propane station and a large pharmacy. With 12 checkout registers and a new self-checkout section with six stations, the warehouse features 830 shopping carts and 804 parking spots.

“With the opening of this new warehouse, we can serve all of our members in the Oshawa and surrounding area and can bring new consumers and businesses to uncover the benefits of a Costco membership,” said Gino Dorico, Senior Vice-President and Country Manager, Costco Wholesale Canada. “We are very proud to share this new location with our valued members and member businesses in the local community and throughout the area.”

Like all other Costco Wholesale warehouses, the north Oshawa location offers more than 3,800 high-quality items at wholesale prices. The company provides a wide range of products and services for members’ personal use and helps small to medium-size businesses save money on both supplies and items for resale.

Costco Wholesale is open to members only. The annual fee is $60 for a Business Membership or a Gold Star Membership. All Costco Wholesale memberships include a free household card and are valid at Costco locations around the world.

Costco currently operates 831 warehouses worldwide and 107 warehouses across Canada.  The first Costco location opened in Burnaby, BC in October 1985, while the first Ontario location opened in Ottawa in 1991.

The company, which reported corporate sales revenue of $195.9 billion in 2021, employs more than 43,000 people in Canada with more than 14,500 in Ontario.
