‘Couldn’t believe it’: Whitby grandfather wins $250,000 in Instant Bingo

A Whitby grandfather is a quarter of a million dollars richer after scratching an Instant Bingo ticket.

Robert Petre, 78, grabbed an Instant Bingo scratcher ticket at the Dryden Variety on Thickson Road in Whitby. He had been playing for more than 40 years and preferred Bingo due to a love of numbers.

“I was at home when I played my ticket and needed three more numbers. I saw the three numbers I needed come up and couldn’t believe it,” he later told the OLG. When he won he ran over to tell his neighbour. “I was so excited that I went to show my neighbour. She was so surprised,” he said.

Petrie is a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He plans to save for the future, possibly travel, treat himself to some new shoes, and take of his responsibilities with his windfall. “This feels great. I always hoped to win, but never expected a big amount like this,” he concluded.
