Yagoda Smith of Courtice is nearly $1 million richer after Lighning Lotto win

A travel consultant from Courtice plans on taking care of her family – and do a bit more travelling – after winning nearly a million dollars in the December 7 LIGHTNING LOTTO jackpot.

Yagoda Smith is a weekly lottery player who enjoys playing LIGHTNING LOTTO – which had grown to $982,469.60 before it was won – and a variety of INSTANT tickets. The mother of two and grandmother of three said it was a “quick stop” at the store that led to her first big win.

“I was at the store when I asked for a LIGHTNING LOTTO ticket. When I discovered I’d won the jackpot, it was unreal,” she recalled while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim her winnings. “It’s still hard to believe I won, but being here today is making it feel more real.”

Her family thought she was kidding when she shared the news. “When they realized it was true, they were so happy for me and said, ‘You deserve it,’” she said. “This experience has been exciting and surreal,”

“I feel fantastic!”

LIGHTNING LOTTO players can win a jackpot on the spot by matching all five numbers in any one line on your ticket with those drawn earlier that day. The top prize starts at $125,000 and grows with ticket sales.

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Grandview Street South in Oshawa.
