COVID-19 cases remain high Pickering to Clarington

COVID-19 cases remain high in Durham Region, with most numbers fairly consistent or higher than the previous week.

New cases numbered 238, up from 210 the previous reporting period, and the weekly incidence rate rose from 28.6 per 100,000 population to 32.4. The per cent positivity rate also spiked to 10.8 per cent from 9.3 per cent while the number of patients in hospital with the virus is currently 37. Last week at this time it was 33. There is one patient in intensive care.

The number of new outbreaks at retirement homes, hospitals and long-term care homes dropped from 18 to 17 and the number of new deaths from December 18-24 remained constant at one.
