COVID numbers are once again down this week almost across the board, with the hospitalization numbers – six – the only constant from last week, though there was still an improvement in that category with zero patients (from one) in intensive care.

The other consistent number from last week can’t go any lower, and that’s the number of deaths from the virus: zero.

New cases of COVID-19 are down to 18 (from 27) in the June 18-24 period, outbreaks at local hospitals, retirement centres and long term care homes dropped to two (from three), the incidence rate (per 100,000 population) fell from 3.7 to 2.5 and the per cent positivity rate dropped to 5.9 per cent from 6.1 per cent.

Durham Region Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Kyle is still encouraging residents to get their COVID-19 and flu vaccines to help protect themselves against circulating respiratory viruses, pointing out that viral activity has remained steady, and wastewater testing indicate that the virus continues to circulate in the community.
