No mixed messages in today’s COVID-19 update for Durham Region with nothing but positive signs.

New cases fell in the region from 123 Monday to 111 Tuesday; Hospital counts dropped to 78 from 89 and there are just six people in ICUs versus eight on Monday. And institutional outbreaks are down to 17 with 34 people still isolating, with the biggest outbreaks (two) affecting just seven people each.

Even the school and child care absenteeism rate seems normal, with 4.2 per cent absenteeism in child care centres last week (January 30-February 5), 2.6 per cent for elementary school students and only 1.5 per cent for secondary school students.

Oshawa, as per usual, reported the highest number of new cases with 30, followed by Pickering with 21 and Whitby with 20.

The most important number, however, was zero. As in zero new deaths in Durham.
