COVID numbers in Durham remained steady with 22 new cases reported yesterday, though school outbreaks continued to climb with 14 schools now affected, with 37 students isolating at home.

There are four residents in hospital with one Oshawa resident still in ICU. The active case count has fallen a bit to 197 from 218 on Sunday.

Ajax (6), Whitby (5) and Oshawa (5) reported the highest number of new cases yesterday. For Oshawa, it was the second straight day with new case totals in single digits. Clarington reported just one new case, remarkable for a community that had been the regional hotspot for most of the past two weeks.

The majority of the students at schools and day cares who have tested positive are from Corpus Christi in Oshawa (14) and Enniskillen in Clarington (8) – two schools that have closed to in-class learning because of the virus.

There are still three workplace outbreaks but zero outbreaks at long-term care homes.
