After several weeks of spiking or at best stabilized viral numbers, this week’s COVID-19 report brings a welcome piece of good news with the data for the week of October 30 to November 5 going down in every single category.

New cases, which had been on the rise, fell by more than a hundred to 278, from 379. The per cent positivity rate of those tested dropped to 10.6 per cent from 13 per cent and the weekly incidence rate fell from 51.7 per 100,000 population all the way to 37.9.

Hospitalizations are down too, with 42 in hospital with COVID versus 52 the previous period. There is one patient in hospital in Durham in the intensive care unit. Outbreaks at local institutions such as hospitals, long term care homes and retirement residences has also fallen, from 21 to 17.

Finally, the most important statistic of all: there were zero deaths last week due to the COVID-19 virus.
