COVID numbers jump on the weekend; Clarington reports 18 new cases Friday to Sunday

New COVID-19 cases in Durham Region took a big jump on the weekend with 51 new cases, including 18 from Clarington.

The total of active cases also took a big leap to 79.

There were 20 new cases in Durham Friday, 16 on Saturday and 15 on Sunday. Clarington had the highest number on both Friday (11) and Saturday (six).  Ajax’s total of six new cases on Sunday was the highest that day.

The good news is Durham hospitals are COVID-free and there are still no cases of the virus in the region’s long-term care homes. There are three children home isolating from local schools and day cares and there are two workplace outbreaks.

The vaccination rate in Durham for the 12-plus population is now at 83.4 per cent.
